Davi Merchan is an Emmy-nominated, award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker. She is currently a Producer/Reporter with the Race and Culture team at ABC News. Before becoming a journalist, Davi was a forensic psychologist. She is passionate about trauma-informed storytelling, uplifting underreported communities, and helping people reclaim the narrative of their lives.
A jack of all trades, Davi is adept at all aspects of production—control room and field producing, scripting packages and writing digital stories, solo shooting/producing, booking, pitching, and more. She is happiest when holding a camera, on the road, or cuddling her dog while reading a book or watching a film.
Davi graduated from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Honors Program, earning a B.A. in Forensic Psychology. She later graduated from the Columbia Journalism School’s documentary program where she co-directed, produced, shot, and edited a short documentary exploring how art can help immigrant teenagers adapt to life in the United States. The documentary was awarded the Fred M. Hechinger Education Journalism Award. She is fluent in Spanish (and reggaeton).
